For the third consecutive year, Portugal has been chosen the Best Destination in the World and Lisbon the Best City Break Destination in the World for the second time. The “Tourism Oscars” ceremony happened this Thursday at the Royal Opera House of Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Paula Oliveira, Executive Director of the Lisbon Tourism Association, said that the city elected for the second year in a row is the result of a “work developed in the requalification of the heritage, promotion of the destination and improvement of the cultural, gastronomic and tourist offer”. For the same category the city of Lisbon faced 15 cities such like as Athens, Dubai, Cape Town, Hong Kong, New York and San Jose.
But the awards didn’t stop here and Portugal raised more Tourism Oscars. Madeira was considered the Best Island Destination in the World, TAP won in the categories of Best Airline to Africa and South America and Up Magazine won the award to Best Airline Magazine.
Turismo de Portugal was voted the Best Tourism Organization and Amazing Evolution was named Best Boutique Hotel Manager in the World. Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel won the Best Classic Hotel award and Dunas Douradas Beach Club in Algarve won the Golf & Villa Resort category.
Passadiços do Paiva was considered the Best Adventure Tourist Attraction and Parques de Sintra the World's Best Conservation Company, for the seventh consecutive year. This is a publicly-owned company responsible for the management and conservation of Parque Nacional and Palácio da Pena, Sintra and Queluz national palaces, the Chalet da Condessa d’Edla, Castelo dos Mouros, Monserrate Palace and Gardens, Convento dos Capuchos and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. So far these monuments have received more than 3 million visits.
