Portugal Unesco Route

Among historic centers, archaeological sites, cultural landscapes, natural parks and intangible heritage, there have already been 25 UNESCO World Heritage Listings. All of these classifications are more than enough reasons to visit Portugal from north to south. This is a tour that brings together some of these emblematic monuments of national history.

Places to visit:

Start this route through Belém and visit some of the monuments, such as the Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower and Padrão dos Descobrimentos. Come and try the famous "Pastéis de Belém" and visit the Museu Nacional dos Coches, with the largest coach collection in the world, also visit the Navy Museu da Marinha. Take the opportunity to visit the Mercado da Ribeira, where you can try the traditional drink "Ginginha de Óbidos".

Visit the Basílica da Estrela and go down to Avenida da Liberdade, where you will find some international brand stores. Continue to Praça dos Restauradores and Praça do Rossio, two emblematic plazas of the city. And then marvel at Terreiro do Paço and its view of the Tagus River.

Visit the Lisbon History Center, go to the Miradouro da Graça where you can enjoy an amazing view over Lisbon. And don't forget to visit São Jorge Castle and discover one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, the Alfama neighborhood. Place where the Museu do Fado is, typically Portuguese music.

Enjoy the landscape of the Estoril and Cascais coast. Pass through Boca do Inferno and continue to Guincho with stunning beaches. Visit the most westerly point in Europe, Cabo da Roca, with a breathtaking view over the Atlantic Ocean.

Further north of the country visit Batalha, the Batalha de Aljubarrota Interpretation Center and the Monastery of Batalha, a Dominican monastery and one of the most emblematic in the country. Also stroll through Nazaré, a traditional Portuguese fishing village that has become known worldwide for its giant waves.

Another city to visit is Alcobaça, here you can visit the Alcobaça Monastery, a building of Gothic architecture and also visit the Alcobaça Wine Museum, an old winery. Run to Tomar and stroll through the historic center with medieval features. In Tomar you have seen the stunning Convento de Cristo and the Castelo dos Templários.

To continue to the north of the country go to the Douro, the oldest wine producing region in the world and visit the Douro Museum in Peso da Régua. Take a boat trip on the Douro River and let yourself be enchanted by its beautiful landscape, you will not regret it.

Visit the Historic Center of Porto. Discover the Clérigos Church, and go up to the tower to have a wonderful view over the city. Be dazzled by Livraria Lello and discover the famous Bulhão Market. Visit the Palácio da Bolsa, a 19th century building that is a must-see. And don't leave the city without first tasting the famous Port wine in the Sandman cellar.
